Welcome to our year group page
Your Upper Key Stage 2 teachers are Mrs K Gordon, Mrs H John and
Mrs H James
Years 5 and 6 have thoroughly enjoyed exploring some of the people, events, causes and consequences of World War II. We are looking forward to finding out more about how the war affected the daily lives of people living in Wales and the UK as a whole.
So far, we have found out about Winston Churchill and Anne Frank, which led us to thinking about what life must have been like as a Jewish refugee in a German occupied country during WWII. We have found out about the Blitz; explored the lives of evacuees, using the story and film of Carrie's War as a stimulus. This led to us creating podcast interviews with 'evacuees'!; We have delved into some World War statistics to graph and analyse them, and even created some scale pictures of some WWII aircraft! At 1/30 of the original size, our Superfortress was almost 2m long!; We really enjoyed creating our own Blitz scene pictures - many of us choosing to use a combination of pastels and black sugar paper cut outs; We have also been thinking about light and sound in science, thinking about how we see light, hear sound and have designed our own torches for use during an air raid in a shelter. We have worked out how to make a switch ... now we just have to work out how we can use this skill to make our torches!
Look out for the next instalment!
